Hendrie joined Harriers in November 2011, signing on non-contract terms after a free transfer move from Southern League side Daventry Town.
The former England international began, and played the bulk of, his career at Aston Villa. Coming through the ranks at Villa Park he made 308 appearances and scored 32 goals over a 12-year period that also saw him represent England at Under-21 level and once for the senior side. He was named Villa's Young Player-of-the-Year in 1998.
Eventually he was loaned out by Villa to Stoke City for the latter half of the 2006-07 season before joining Sheffield United on a free transfer in the summer of 2007. Over half of his appearances at Brammall Lane came as substitute, including in the Championship Play-Off Final, and he was soon being loaned out again, having spells with Leicester and Blackpool.
His next permanent move saw him join Derby County on a free in September 2009 but after just a handful of appearances he was farmed out on loan, again, to Brighton.
He began 2010/11 at Bradford City but made a surprise move in January of that season around the world to join Bandung in Indonesia. He was back in England looking for a club by the summer of 2011 and after trials with Corby and Hinckley joined Southern League side Daventry who were managed by his former Villa team-mate Mark Kinsella.
After leaving Aggborough he had very short spells with Chasetown and Redditch United before joining Tamworth in the summer of 2012. At the end of the 2012-13 season he announced his retirement from football.
